There is nothing more satisfying to me as the weather heats up then a refreshing sour beer. Something about the high acidity and the brewing style is so thirst quenching. I love trying new sours and I had the privilege of trying this sour about a month ago.
Duchesse De Bourgogne is a "Flanders Red Ale" from Belgium. According to Beer Advocate a Flanders Red Ale is "commonly referred to as the "red" beers of West Flanders. Belgian Red Beers are typically light-bodied brews with reddish-brown colors. They are infamous for their distinct sharp, fruity, sour and tart flavors which are created by special yeast strains. Very complex beers, they are produced under the age old tradition of long-term cask aging in oak, and the blending of young and old beers."
We love our sour ales here at Vintage Paris so this ale is now available. My review is below.
Aroma: bright lime, floral, boozy
Palate: Apple cider vinegar, malts, honey , complex, tart
Finish: quick but lingering acidity
Overall: Fantastic. Love it. 6.5/7
